Restructured in 2017, Berkeley County’s home incarceration (confinement) program has resulted in millions of dollars in incarceration cost avoidance annually thanks to a cooperative effort of various stakeholders, including judicial officers and law enforcement. Limited to nonviolent offenders, home incarceration participants must agree to electronic monitoring and must daily fee day per state law. Participants are regularly screened for possible drug use and monitored by officers who complete training for use of firearms and job-related duties.
