Annual Leave/Paid Time Off

Berkeley County recognizes that employees have diverse needs requiring time off from work and believes that employees should have opportunities to enjoy time away from work to help balance their lives. The County has established an Annual Leave/Paid Time Off policy to meet those needs. Leave benefits are not available for employees in part-time and temporary positions.

Annual Leave/Paid Time Off shall accrue as follows:

     0 – 5     years                                      1.25 days                                                  15 days

     5 – 10   years                                      1.50 days                                                  18 days

    10 – 15 years                                       1.75 days                                                  21 days

    15 years plus                                       2.00 days                                                  24 days

 
Holidays

Berkeley County observes at least 12 paid holidays per year, and State Primary and General Election Days as they occur.

Personal Leave 

Employees earn a half (.5) day of personal leave per month - maximum balance of 30 days. Personal leave can be used for unplanned self or dependent emergencies, illness, or medical/dental appointments.

Long-Term Leave 

Employees earn 1 day of Long-Term Leave per month - no maximum accumulation. Long-Term Leave can be used during self-only FMLA-covered events and should be used with an approved FMLA claim.

Salary/Compensation:

Berkeley County employees are paid twice per month. A new employee ordinarily starts work at the rate specified in the announcement. The Berkeley County Commission periodically reviews compensation increases and makes corresponding adjustments with the application of various budgetary considerations and Human Resources policy-based factors.
