[ARCHIVED] BCFD Lt. Jeremy Taylor honored as a Distinguished Mountaineer

Berkeley County, W.Va. - Gov. Jim Justice honored Berkeley County Fire Department Lieutenant Jeremy Taylor on July 31 with the “Distinguished Mountaineer” award. 

Lt. Taylor was recognized by the governor for his lifelong devotion to the fire service, emergency medical service, and law enforcement.  Jeremy has been a volunteer firefighter with the Fountain Fire Department for more than thirty years and also volunteered at the Fort Ashby Fire Department.  Jeremy currently is a volunteer firefighter at the Baker Heights Fire Department. 

Lt. Taylor served as an Emergency Medical Technician at Tri-County Ambulance and Valley Medical Transport for over 10 years.  

In addition to being a firefighter/EMT, Jeremy served as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Mineral County, WV where he also served two terms as the elected Sheriff.  

After retiring from his career in law enforcement, Jeremy began his second career in 2019 as a firefighter for Berkeley County Fire Department.  For over 10 years, he has served as a Fire Service Instructor for WVU and WVPST. In 2024, Jeremy was promoted to Lieutenant with the Berkeley County Fire Department.  

"Lt. Taylor has accomplished all of this while also being a dedicated husband and father," Chief Martin Roberts said. "Clearly, Lt. Taylor has devoted his life to protecting and assisting the people of West Virginia. All of us at BCFD are proud of Lt. Taylor’s accomplishments and congratulate him on being honored by Governor Jim Justice and the state of West Virginia as a Distinguished Mountaineer."
