Clerk Info

A little about the Berkeley County Clerk’s Office. The primary responsibilities of my elected office centers around two basic functions:

  • To act as the receiver of fees charged for the instruments filed and recorded within Berkeley County.
  • To act as Clerk (fiscal officer) of the county council.

As your County Clerk, to fulfill these obligations I am responsible for ensuring our office serves as the official recorder and record keeper for numerous documents.  These documents include, but not limited to; births, marriages, deaths, deeds, mortgages, liens, releases, wills, name changes and more, much more!

Additionally, the County Clerk serves as Berkeley County’s chief election official supervising elections and voter’s registration.  A large part of this responsibility is to maintain custody and integrity of Berkeley County’s voting machines.  This is coupled with conducting training for poll workers, preparing the ballot and other election duties.

The County Clerk's office also serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the county and ensures the county's annual financial statement is prepared; helps prepare the annual budget, maintains and processes all the county financial needs, such as accounts receivables, payables and payroll for our valued county employees.

The County Clerk is responsible for serving as the ex officio of the Berkeley County Deputy Sheriff Civil Service Commission.  This involves supplying the commission all necessary clerical and stenographic services for the work of the civil service commission.
