Mission Statement
The Planning Department is one of the departments operating under the authority of the Berkeley County Council. The department's mission is to help protect the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the county. This is achieved by providing direction and oversight for orderly, sound and cost effective land development within the Berkeley County through the administering of the Subdivision Regulations.
The department is also responsible for administering the FloodPlain Ordinance and the Community Rating System Program. Compliance with the ordinance and participation in the CRS program make residents of the county eligible for lower flood insurance rates.
The Planning Department is also responsible for the preparation and update of the Comprehensive Plan for the County. The Plan addresses goals and objectives in such areas as; land use, transportation, housing and other community services.
We are here to assist the citizens of Berkeley County and encourage residents to contact the office with questions via phone or email. Contact information is found under the staff tab to the left.
